My brother and I started collecting daylilies several years ago just as a hobby because we both like growing flowers. We both got the idea of collecting registered flowers with names of people in our family. I got the idea when I found a flower registered as "Judith" and bought it because that is my mother's name. So I started a daylily bed that I referred to as my "family" bed. My brother did the same. Last summer, I got a call from my brother about possibly registering a flower for his neighbor. Apparently, the neighbors were over and noticed all the tags with the clever names in my brothers "family" bed. So he told her the story behind it. She stated, "I bet you can't find one with MY name on it. I can't find anything with my name on it." My brother said, "We can fix that!" I showed them some samples, and they picked a flower that eventually was registered as "Retha."
Then my brother got he idea, if we're going to register a flower in Retha's name, why not register one for her husband. So now we have TWO flowers with Retha's name in it with one of them connecting her to her husband Charlie.
